Derek (possibly Derek Angel) was Nicholas Angel's uncle. He was a Sergeant in the Metropolitan Police Service, and bought Nicholas a police pedal car. This inspired Nicholas to become a police officer. However, it turned out that Derek was selling drugs to high school students, and was arrested. Nicholas suspected the pedal car was bought with these ill-gotten funds, and never touched it again. However, he never lost that distinct feeling of right and wrong that he experienced behind that pedal car, and later became a police officer himself.
