Newton Haven is a fictional town depicted in the movie The World's End known for its famous pub crawl: the Golden Mile. Sometime after June 1990, it was appropriated by The Network as a penetration point. The town would eventually be destroyed by an electromagnetic pulse after The Network leaves humanity to its own devices.
The Golden Mile[]
Newton Haven's Golden Mile is comprised of twelve pubs: The First Post, the Old Familiar, the Famous Cock, the Cross Hands, the Good Companions, the Trusty Servant, the Two-Headed Dog, the Mermaid, the Beehive, the King's Head, the Hole in the Wall, and the World's End. Each of these pubs contains their own special significance in the film.
- The First Post - The first pub of the Golden Mile. Owned by a man named Raymondo. Previously a post office until 1840, whereupon it was turned into a pub. Bought by a chain by the time of the film. Name significance is that it is the group's first pub.
- The Old Familiar - The second pub of the Golden Mile. Owned by a man named David. Bought by a chain by the time of the film. Name significance is that it resembles the first pub.
- The Famous Cock - The third pub of the Golden Mile. Frequented by Basil. Gary was barred from it in 1990. Name significance is that Gary is 'the famous cock.'
- The Cross Hands - The fourth pub of the Golden Mile. The group had 1990's new years in this pub, and Andy fell asleep on the pool table for six hours. Gary broke the bathroom's tiled wall in 1990, and it has not been repaired by the time of the film. Frequented by the girl trio nicknamed the Marmalade Sandwich by the group, as well as Shane Hawkins. Name significance is that this is the pub where the group gets in a fight with the blanks and has to work together.
- The Good Companions - The fifth pub of the Golden Mile. Name significance is that the group has to pretend they are having a good night out and not avoiding the robots that have taken over.
- The Trusty Servant - The sixth pub of the Golden Mile. Frequented by the Reverend Green, Gary's old drug dealer, and the Shifty Twins. Name significance is that the former of the three is the Network's so-called 'trusty servant.'
- The Two-Headed Dog - The seventh pub of the Golden Mile. Frequented by the Twins, Sam's old friends. Has a beer garden out back. Name significance is that the group fights the Twins during the film, aka the 'two-headed dog.'
- The Mermaid - The eighth pub of the Golden Mile. More of a nightclub than a bar. Has a school disco happening both times the group is here. Appears to be frequented by Adrian Keane. Name significance is that Gary, Andy, and Peter are seduced by the blanks of the Marmalade Sandwich, like a mermaid or siren's song.
- The Beehive - The ninth pub of the Golden Mile. Appears to be frequented by Guy Shepherd. The group gets in a fight both times they are here. Name significance is that the Network attempts to convince the group that they're here to get every planet to work together, like a beehive. It is also where the blanks work together like a hive to fight the group.
- The King's Head - The tenth pub of the Golden Mile. Blown off during the first crawl, empty during the second. Name significance is that A) Gary hits his head on the way there, and B) this is where Gary decides to finish the crawl alone despite the blanks everywhere searching for the group.
- The Hole in the Wall - The eleventh pub of the Golden Mile. Blown off during the first crawl, empty during the second. Name significance is that Steven rams the Beast through the wall during the second crawl, creating a hole in the wall.
- The World's End - The twelfth pub of the Golden Mile. Blown off during the first crawl, empty during the second. The Network's base of operations lies beneath it. Name significance is that the world ends after the arguments of the group incites the Network to leave Earth and take all of humanity's technology with it.
